Nicoya has many living traditions that are the heritage of the Mesoamerican people,
such as ceramics, the marimba, their corn-based diet, and the preparation of coyol wine.
The festival of the atolada that is still celebrated on December 9 was originally the Fiesta al Sol,
which since 1544 became a festival in honor of the Virgin of Guadalupe in which today pujagua atol is served,
chicha and chicheme in guacal.
